Melate Retro

Melate Retro is a very popular revived version of Melate, the country’s main national lottery game.

Melate Retro draws are held twice weekly on Tuesdays and Saturdaysat 21:15 local time. The draws take place at the Pronosticos offices in Mexico City, with results being announced on national television and radio shortly after the draw.

Entry into Melate Retro costs MXN 10 per ticket. To enter, choose six numbers between 1 and 39, or go for a Melático to play with randomly generated numbers. Also, an “Adicional” number is automatically drawn, applicable for secondary prizes only.

Melate Retro also has a Coperacha option in which players enter tickets in groups of five with family and friends. Each Coperacha ticket is worth 20% of the prize, with each ticket holder able to claim their 20% independently.

Players can also go for a combination entry, selecting up to 10 numbers as multiple combinations. This enhances the possibility of winning, but significantly increases the cost of a ticket.

Also, Advance Play lets players enter up to nine draws at a time.

Jackpot

Melate Retro has a minimum guaranteed jackpot of MXN 5 million.

As in the main Melate game, Melate Retro has no rollover or jackpot cap, and in spite of the relatively good odds of winning this jackpot, regular rollovers see jackpots that are far higher than the minimum guaranteed prize.

The highest ever Melate Retro jackpot was MXN 44,657,863 on November 24, 2015.

Odds and Prizes

The odds of winning the Melate Retro jackpot are 1 in 3,262,623, and although these are great odds for a lottery game, prizes are somewhat lower than in many other global lotteries.

Melate Retro has seven different prize tiers.

Prize category Numbers Matched Winning Odds Winning Odds %
1 6 1 in 3,262,623 0.00003
2 5, plus Adicional 1 in 543,770 0.0002

Payout and Taxes

Lottery prizes in Mexico are subject to 7% tax at source for all players, with participants from abroad needing to check local tax laws to find out if winnings need to be declared at home.

All Melate Retro prizes are paid out as lump sums only, with players having up to 60 days to make their claim.

Who Can Play Melate Retro?

Players in Mexico must be at least 21 years of age to buy lottery tickets.

Melate Retro tickets are available to Mexican residents from over 9,000 authorized lottery retailers across the country. Unfortunately, entry is not available via the official Melate Retro website.

Players from around the world can play Melate Retro online via selected Lottery Agent websites.

History of Melate Retro

The first Melate Retro draw took place on June 1, 2010, launched so that participants could play the original version of the popular Melate draw, which has undergone many changes over the years.
