SuperEnalotto

SuperEnalotto is one of Italy’s most popular national lottery games.

SuperEnalotto costs €1.00 to enter, with draws taking place three times a week on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays at 20:00 local time. Ticket sales end at 19:30 local time on draw days, with online entry from abroad ending several hours earlier.

To enter SuperEnalotto, choose six numbers between 1 and 90, or go for a Quick Pick to play with randomly generated numbers. A seventh number called the Jolly Number is drawn, with players matching it against their six choices for a chance to win the second prize.

For an extra €0.50, a SuperStar number can be played alongside the regular numbers, which multiplies existing SuperEnalotto payouts and guarantees a prize if matched.

Jackpot

SuperEnalotto has a minimum jackpot of €2 million.

This lottery has no rollover or jackpot cap, which when combined with the long odds of matching all six numbers, can often grow into huge sums of money.

The biggest ever SuperEnalotto jackpots are:

  • €209,160,441 on August 13, 2019.
  • €177,800,000 on October 30, 2010.
  • €163,500,000 on October 27, 2016.

Odds and Prizes

The odds of winning the SuperEnalotto jackpot are 1 in 622,614,630. Statistically, this is by far the toughest lottery to win in the world.

Players can win prizes at six tiers, with odds of 1 in 21 of winning some type of prize.

Prize Category Numbers Matched Winning Odds Winning Odds %
1 6 1 in 622,614,630 0.0000002
2 5, plus Jolly Number 1 in 103,769,105 0.000001
3 5 1 in 1,250,230 0.00008
4 4 1 in 11,907 0.008
5 3 1 in 327 0.3
6 2 1 in 22 4.5

Payout and Taxes

Players have up to 90 days to claim SuperEnalotto prizes, with jackpot winners able to receive winnings as a lump sum or as regular annual payments.

SuperEnalotto prizes of more than €500 are taxed at 20% - the highest rate of any lottery in Italy, which is unusual because different lotteries are taxed at different rates throughout the country rather than one rate for all.

Prizes are taxed at source, which also applies to players entering SuperEnalotto from abroad, who need to check local tax laws to find out if additional tax is applicable at home.

Who Can Play SuperEnalotto?

SuperEnalotto tickets are on sale from authorized retailers across Italy, via authorized partner websites or by using the official SuperEna Lotto App.

Players from abroad can also play SuperEnalotto via Lottery Agent websites.

Participants must be at least 18 years of age.

History of SuperEnalotto

Launched in 1997, SuperEnalotto evolved out of the previous Enalotto game. Prior to 1997, it was operated by multiple companies, with its name being changed by the Sisal Group after taking over the licence.
